Kindness Comes Easy

Love Dare Day 2: March 18, 2020

What is Day 2 about:

Today is all about kindness. Just like patience, my initial thought is that this should be a pretty easy day. See I work very hard and keep kindness a center value in our family. It is not uncommon for our three-year-old to see that his mom is out of water and offer to get her some more. As the kids get older I notice this is a concept they struggle more with as they have their own desires, but I will work on remedying that.

What do I think about the material:

I enjoyed reading today. It reminded me how powerful kindness can be. See with kindness, we can disarm our enemies and spark a flame of curiosity within our hearts about the ones we love.

Think of it this way; If you are actively trying to be kind to someone then you will discover things about them that you never knew. The keyword in that sentence is ‘actively’, not passively. It doesn’t take too much kindness to act when being asked to do something, but how much kindness does it take to be aware of your loved ones to such a degree that you act before being asked.

I will suggest we take this one step further. What if we acted and served before our love even knew they had the want or need?

I know, I know. I will give you a minute to let that soak in…

Time is up.

What was my task and how did I perform the task:

As I am sure you are aware we are working on Social Distancing during this COVID-19 pandemic. My plan for this Wednesday was to do family shopping for a week. Normally I shop basically every day because we like to keep our waste down. Part of my shopping routine is also that I use it as my alone/recharging time. I like to crank up the music and entertain the thoughts in my head.

Well this time, Jess had the idea that we should all go because she wanted to help and make sure we got everything we needed; I also think she wanted to get out of the house. Bottom line, I had a choice to make. I could convince her that going out is a bad idea and I would still get my alone time or I could sacrifice this moment and we all go, knowing it would increase my stress.

We e all went to the grocery store.

What was Jessica’s reaction:

First, she didn’t know this was an act of kindness on my part. Reason being is that she doesn’t even know that I use these short trips for recharging. I would say a better gage of her reaction will be after she reads this blog post! So Jess, maybe comment below. (haha).

I think that may be part of the point here. When we are kind often enough, it isn’t a surprise to your loved ones when you perform acts of kindness. They see it as a part of who you are, instead of something you are trying to do.
