It is currently 5:30 pm and I usually write this post 12 hours earlier. This day has certainly been an off day, and I am not always sure what to do next. Have you ever had one of those days? I am curious what you do with your off day. For me, it is a constant fight because I want to accomplish something, but everything seems to prevent me from doing this.
For example, I normally start my day with my morning pages, prayer, Bible reading, self-help reading, and then blogging. But this morning, I woke up to down cell towers preventing Jess and I to work. So I spent an hour in town fighting with AT&T to figure out our problem. This situation certainly set the course for the day.
Don’t worry, I managed to derail others too on my off day
Yeah, I wasn’t the only victim. Sadly, my situation didn’t improve much after my counseling appointment, so I brought home a frustrated attitude and my family got the brunt of it. Does any of this sound familiar? Even as I sit here and type, I am playing back the sharp tongue I too willingly gave my wife and kids.
My writing is my safe space. Putting this situation on paper I hope will turn this day around. I think the worse part about having an off day is that I can’t pin-point it on a single event or circumstance. In my mind things just are swimming in a pool of waste and I can’t seem to find the edge to pull myself out.
There’s got to be a lesson here
Nobody is perfect and I am certainly not nobody. (English majors don’t kill me over that last sentence.) I think when it comes down to it, if we can have better foresight into our day and recognize it for what it is, then maybe we can navigate the poo-waters. I don’t think there is anything I could’ve done to change today, but I bet I could’ve changed my attitude throughout it.
Tomorrow the sun will shine and I will have a new opportunity to view the potential murky waters and make a better choice. The rest of my evening, that will be my focus. I will not be short with those who love and stand by me, and I will focus on the God-given opportunity to take full advantage of the day he will give me tomorrow.
