Love Dare Day 36: April 25, 2020
What is Day 36 about:
Maybe Jack’s line is Live together or die alone, but read with your spouse, creates an unspoken and unique connection you can’t artificially create. This chapter talks about how important it is to have a daily habit of reading the Bible.
What do I think about the material:
I grew up a Christian and can remember the Sunday school classes that talked about the Bible being a living word. The collection of books should be read every day because God is constantly speaking to us through his words. As a child, that didn’t make much sense to me.
The more I worked with words, the more I understood that when an author creates a masterpiece, they speak far beyond the written text. There is always something that is said without saying it outright. I liken it to the emotion that a painter evokes through their paintings.
We don’t go to an art gallery and have the artist stand there next to his work explaining his inspiration or the proper emotion to experience. But this happens regardless. This is how I understand the way that God speaks to us through his word. the Bible is full of wisdom and motivation, but the words between the lines is the living portion.
This chapter says that if we want to grow as strong Christians and in turn create a wonderful marriage, we must be in the Bible, stay under its teaching through church, and live out our lives according to the word.
My task and how did I perform the task:
I am a 40 year-old man and for the vast majority of my life I have struggled to be in the Word. Today’s task is to commit to a daily habit of reading a portion of the Bible.
A little over 30 days ago, I made this commitment before picking up The Love Dare. But for the first time, I didn’t stress about it. In the past, I created a plan and punished myself each time I didn’t accomplish it or if I missed one day. Reading the Bible was a source of anxiety for me and not love.
The difference I made this time was to remove all stress. First, I committed to making it a part of my morning routine. Not the entire part of my routine, but a part of it. Secondly, I picked a book that I felt curious about. I learned that Luke was the writer of Acts, one of my favorite books, so I started in Luke.
Lastly, I read from point to point and not an entire chapter. the Bible is a collection of stories and letters, not a novel. Sometimes this means I read a couple of chapters and sometimes it means I read two versus. I don’t put a time limit on it, I just read to the next point. After I am finished reading, I pause and ask God to keep the passage on my heart for the day.
Jessica’s reaction:
I am highjacking this section for My Reaction. I have mentioned it before, but Jess has a phenomenal morning routing. Part of which is her reading the Bible. She was my inspiration in creating a morning routine and including the Bible.
